Coluntuono Blast Lifts West Chester To Win At SCAD Spring Break Tournament

Box Score

SAVANNAH, Ga.
– Tara Coluntuono hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and Shannon Padula scattered five hits over seven innings to lead West Chester to a 3-1 win over Chowan at the Savannah College of Art & Design Smash Hit Spring Break Tournament Wednesday morning. However, Armstrong Atlantic took advantage of three West Chester errors to steal a 6-2 verdict in the Golden Rams’ second game Wednesday at Paulson Softball Complex.

Megan Harbaugh doubled home pinch-runner Ashley Landi in the fourth to restore the Rams’ two-run lead after Chowan had cut the deficit in half with a single run in the third. Katie Kmiencinski had singled to lead off the fourth inning. Harbaugh finished 2-for-2 with the RBI in the contest.

Padula (4-3) was the only other Golden Ram to get a hit in the game. She finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Inside the circle, the junior tossed a complete-game, allowing one run walking three and striking out seven.

In the second game of the split doubleheader of the morning, Armstrong Atlantic managed just three hits, but made the most of three West Chester errors to come away with its second win over the Golden Rams in as many days.

Megan Graham (0-3) was the hard-luck loser inside the circle for West Chester. She scattered two hits over four innings of work and allowed just three earned runs. Graham walked one and struck out three. Ashley Saussaman relieved Graham and allowed only one hit and one unearned run in two innings of work.

Stefani Kerbacher, Jamie McComb, Kelsey Rapp, Brandi Woolfrey and Kmiencinski each had hits for the Golden Rams. Coluntuono and McComb picked up RBI for the team as well.

West Chester takes on Pikesville at 10 a.m. Thursday morning and then Chowan at 12 p.m.
